How Walnotes Works.

Everything the app does, in one page — no wall of text required.

What is Walnotes

A sticky-note board that doubles as a decentralized memory. Notes are stored in Convex for speed, and — on Premium — backed up to Walrus so they outlive the app itself.

Cabinets & the board

Notes live in a cabinet: Notes, Bookmarks, and Tasks come by default, each with fields that fit the job (Bookmarks get a URL, Tasks get a checkbox). Add your own cabinet from the sidebar any time. The Desktop screen puts your built-in cabinets on one side and your own on the other; Explorer gives a full directory view of every cabinet at once.

Private notes

Flag any note Private and it's kept out of Walrus backup and semantic search — it stays in your Walnotes account (Convex) and is never synced to the shared memory store. Basic includes 2 private notes; Premium and Founding Walrus remove the cap. A Private note can also get an optional wallet-only backup: encrypted in your browser and readable only by signing with your own wallet — see below for exactly how.

Search

Typing in the search bar always matches titles, content, and tags directly. Premium and Founding Walrus additionally get semantic recall via MemWal — search by what a note means, not just what it says.

Trash & Archives

Deleting a note moves it to Archives (/trash), never straight to gone. Restore it any time, or empty the whole archive when you're sure.

Signing in

Connect a Sui wallet and sign a message — no password, no account to create separately. You stay signed in across visits.

Paying with USDC on Sui

Prefer crypto? Every paid tier can also be paid in USDC on Sui — no card, no fees beyond a fraction of a cent of Sui gas. Your wallet signs the transfer directly; we only ever read the resulting on-chain transaction to verify it and unlock your plan. USDC grants are a one-time transfer, not a subscription, so they run for 30 days per payment and stack if you pay again before they lapse.

Walrus Memory add-on

Just want the Walrus backup and semantic search, without the rest of Premium? The $5/month add-on stacks on top of Basic (or any plan) — you keep Basic's note limits, but every note gets backed up to Walrus and becomes searchable by meaning.

Account & billing

Your Account page shows your current plan with a badge, a Walrus backup meter, and — depending on how you paid — either a Stripe payment history or a USDC transaction history with links to view each one. Card subscriptions can be managed or cancelled any time via Manage Billing, which opens Stripe's secure billing portal.

How wallet-only encryption works

This only applies to Private notes on a Sui-wallet account, and only if you turn on wallet backup for that note. Nothing is encrypted by default.

  1. 1One-time setup. Connecting your wallet creates a small account for you on Sui, owned only by that wallet — nobody else, including Walnotes, controls it.
  2. 2Encrypt happens in your browser. Before the note ever leaves your device, it’s scrambled locally. What reaches our servers and Walrus storage is already unreadable ciphertext — we never see the plain text.
  3. 3Reading it back needs your wallet, every time. Opening a backed-up note prompts a wallet signature (a 5-minute session, not a permanent unlock) that proves you’re the owner before the decryption key is released to your browser.
  4. 4Lose the wallet, lose the note. There’s no password reset and no override — genuinely nobody but that wallet can decrypt it, which also means we can’t recover it for you.

Basic is free, forever. Premium ($10/month), Founding Walrus ($99 once, lifetime), and the standalone Walrus Memory add-on ($5/month) unlock unlimited private notes, semantic search, and Walrus backup — pay by card via Stripe, or USDC on Sui with no processing fees.

Deleting your Walrus backup

Trashing or permanently deleting a note in Walnotes removes it from your board and archives here — it does not delete the copy backed up to Walrus on Premium and Founding Walrus. Walrus Memory is a separate, wallet-owned store outside Walnotes’ control, so removing that copy is a separate step you take directly on their dashboard: connect the wallet tied to your account, open the Delete memories panel, preview what’s stored, and delete what you no longer want kept. It’s permanent and can’t be undone, so preview before you delete.
